Government Relations Advisor (DC)


 

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Government Relations Advisor to join our Government Relations and Regulatory team.

 

The Government Relations Advisor will work with the team to provide federal government relations and/or regulatory services to clients across various sectors. The position is based in Washington, D.C., and requires in-person work in downtown D.C., including engagements with Congress and federal agencies, as well as travel as needed.

 


 

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

 

  • Tax Policy: In-depth understanding of federal budget and tax policy, implementation, and analysis, including working knowledge of the Inflation Reduction Act (“IRA”) and the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (“TCJA”).
  • Energy Sector: Expertise in policy, legislative drafting, and regulation on energy issues.  Experience working on/with the oil and gas industry issues and the development, implementation, permitting, and funding of oil and gas projects is preferred.
  • Native American, Agriculture and/or Rual Development Policy:  Experience working on Tribal, agriculture, and/or rural development legislation or executive branch initiatives. 
  • Healthcare: Detailed knowledge of healthcare policies, regulations, and legislative initiatives, with experience working with the Department of Health and Human Services (“HHS”), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”), and Indian Health Services (“IHS”).
  • Defense and/or Veterans Sector: Experience working with the Department of Defense (“DoD”), DOD and/or Veterans Affairs (“VA”) legislation and policies or related sectors.   
  • Federal Grants: Proficiency in drafting, reviewing, managing, implementing, applying for and/or selecting federal grants, funding and/or cooperative agreements.

 


 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Legislative Monitoring and Research: Stay up to date and closely monitor legislative and regulatory developments at both federal and state levels that impact our clients.
  • Policy Analysis and Communication: Prepare detailed memoranda, policy briefs, letters, talking points, and other materials to effectively communicate complex policy issues to clients.
  • Develop and disseminate legislative alerts, articles, and political updates to inform clients and the Firm of pertinent Congressional and Administration policies. 
  • Congressional and Executive Branch Engagement: Attend and summarize Congressional hearings and agency consultations, coordinate meetings with members of Congress, and represent clients at political events in Washington, D.C.
  • Strategic Advocacy: Assist in developing and executing strategic advocacy plans to advance client interests within legislative and regulatory frameworks.

 


 

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degrees in law, public policy, business, or related fields are advantageous but not required.
  • Professional Experience: 5+ years of experience in federal government roles, political campaigns, federal advocacy entities, or related fields.
  • Legislative Acumen: Strong understanding of political and legislative processes, with the ability to analyze and interpret policy impacts.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, capable of articulating complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • Relationship Building: Proven ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including clients, legislators, and regulatory agencies.
  • Self-Starter Mentality: A proactive attitude with the ability to take initiative, work independently, and drive projects forward in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team Collaboration: Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
